Forklift Tires
There are two types of tires that could be utilized on forklifts: press on and standard. Normally, press on tires are utilized on electric forklifts and those types of forklifts operating in indoor applications like warehouses. The press on tires could also be utilized in light industrial application too.
Standard tires are mainly used on forklifts which operate in outdoor settings or where rough or uneven surfaces require more traction and tougher tires.
Because there are lots of different kinds of forklifts, there are also lots of various kinds of forklift tires. The most commonly used tires are pneumatic, solid and polyurethane. The type of tires are dictated by what and where the forklift is used for. It is very vital to acquire the right kind of tires for the job and making certain that the correct pick will have a huge effect on both performance and safety.
It is better to use pneumatic tires on outdoor forklifts which function in an all-terrain environment such as on construction sites. These are constructed out of tough rubber and then filled with air, similar to a truck or tractor tire. Pneumatic tires create an air cushion between the forklift and the terrain. This particular design significantly lessens the wear and tear on the machine and creates a very comfortable ride for the operator. The tire's thick, deep treads give the necessary traction needed for use on surfaces that are uneven and rough.
For light industrial use, both indoors and outdoors, solid tires are suitable. They are made out of tough, constructed solid rubber. This helps them to stay safer from blowouts, popping like pneumatic tires or damage due to puncture wounds. Since these tires are not filled with air, they could not provide the cushion effect. This fact makes them not suitable for use on rough terrain. Several solid tires are made with holes in the sidewalls to provide a fairly softer ride. The only problem is that this type of construction makes the load carrying capacity of the forklift less.
Though they are intended for indoor warehouse use only, polyurethane forklift tires will usually outlast both rubber tire designs. The load capacity of polyurethane is a lot higher than that of a rubber tire. These tires work great with well with electric forklifts because of the extra weight of the batteries of the equipment. Because of the less rolling resistance of the tires, another benefit of this particular type of tire is the longer battery life.
